commonly asked questions.

No, Vedic meditation is a natural practice which brings great benefit to the mind. The origins of the practice are from India, so there is a small flavour of that in the course but the practice itself has no religious or esoteric aspects. Hence why it is a scientific universal practice that anyone from any religious or non religious belief system can benefit from.
-
No, with Vedic meditation it is better for you to be able to sit comfortably, if that is cross legged for you that is fine, but most will meditate on a chair. All that is required is that you sit upright with the back supported.
-
Don’t worry, most of us have the same concerns, and rightly so as we have between 60-80,000 thoughts a day (according to science) and trying to stop those is near impossible and with Vedic meditation, we are not trying to do that. In fact, if you can think effortlessly, you can meditate effortlessly as well.
But so many of us have that same thought, I know I certainly did but it is really a big misconception of meditation (although some forms of meditation are certainly harder than others). But with Vedic meditation you will see just how simple and easy it is for you to sit for 20 minutes. In fact many who have tried before are amazed at the effortlessness of this technique and are shocked that 20 minutes felt like minutes!
-
No not at all, millions of people who benefit from Vedic meditation were non meditators previously. The simple technique you will learn is easy for anyone no matter what previous experience or lack of they have had.
-
Any time you sit to give yourself time out is great, and apps are some of the greatest tools to have helped thousands of people discover meditation. But to go deeper into the scientific benefits of meditation it is recommended that you experience a technique like Vedic meditation, through which you can create a strong daily practice. Most app developers are experienced meditators and the goal is to get people to open their minds to the benefits of meditation. Once they experience that they can choose to go to the next stage and learn a technique such as Vedic meditation.
-
No, once you have learnt the Vedic meditation technique you can meditate on your own. That is the beauty of this practice, you will be a confident meditator.

Guided meditations (such as mindfulness – think apps like headspace) are fantastic to relax and switch off the fight or flight system and go into a state of rest.
Vedic Meditation is a mantra based practice which helps the mind delve deeper into a profound state of rest and transcend past thought, which is where you can really access much deeper rest and restorative repair for your being.
Meditation has been around for a long time and it all stems back to the one tree. The Vedic meditation practice has been around for over 5,000 years, unchanged and incredibly powerful, which is why I have become a teacher of this system (I have done a lot of different forms of meditation over the years, but most profound results from the Vedic practice). The scientific results as well indicate this method has the greatest results for relieving stress and tension and achieving greater clarity, calmness and well being.
-
No, The mantra practice we use is a mantra that has no meaning (either spiritual or non spiritual) nor intent, unlike other mantra based methods. In fact, this practice is designed to be forgotten as we are not forcing repetition of our mantra, which aids in us transcending to deeper states of consciousness leading to greater happiness and bliss as a result of the practice.

Vedic Meditation & TM are both mantra-based meditation techniques which are known as effortless transcending forms of meditation (versus concentrative – ie focus breath etc – & contemplative – ie mindfulness). Vedic Meditation comes from the same lineage as Transcendental meditation. The Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was responsible for bringing TM to the west and has shone the light on this amazing tool for many in the western world. And we are so fortunate he did.
My teacher was trained to teach this form of Vedic meditation as taught by Thom Knoles. , who continues to teach Vedic Meditation. Thom Knoles was trained as a teacher of Transcendental Meditation (“TM”) by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, and Thom Knoles taught TM for over 25 years with TM organizations affiliated with Maharishi. Since 1997, Thom Knoles has continued to teach meditation as he learned it from Maharishi, and has done so independently and separately from the TM organizations. Thom Knoles trained my teacher to teach meditation as he was trained to teach meditation by Maharishi, as my teacher has taught me. I am not affiliated with the TM organizations or their current services or programs, which may differ from my services.

The term Vedic comes from the Sanskrit word Veda which translated means “To Know”. It is essentially a vast body of knowledge derived from India which meditation stems from. The body of knowledge is over 5000 years old and from which not only meditation was derived, but also the yoga practices. This philosophy is based around living well with unity between body, mind and spirit.

In the true nature of this teaching and method, no. This powerful technique requires the personal tuition of a trained teacher. This technique has been passed down from teacher to student, teacher to student since its inception and requires one on one contact to receive your personalized instruction and personalized mantra. Also there is nothing more powerful than receiving one to one instruction and having the ongoing support of your teacher.
-
No you can do private courses with me to learn this technique. There are benefits to being in a group class as you can learn much of others questions and queries. But if you prefer a private course I am happy to discuss this with you.
-
Normally between 4-10 people. That is a good size as it is small enough for personalized instructions and time to answer all questions.
-
No not at all, if you love your coffee, a glass of red, a block of chocolate, a few beers… if that is what you enjoy and gives you pleasure in life go for it. This is a technique that is just there to help you achieve greater happiness without any rigid rules, dogmas or belief systems.
-
We live in the day and age where we all need to feed ourselves and our families, so a fair exchange is an integral part of this system.
In the past to learn this technique you would have had to go to India, trekked through the Himalayas to find a teacher who would be willing to teach you, then you may have to prove your worth, bring gifts and a weeks salary, to learn the technique.
Now obviously that is not going to work for most us westerners.
And also in the world of the free… it is very rarely valued. This practice has so many life-changing benefits that the price to pay is a small one.
-
The course fee includes all the course training sessions (there are 4 of them), a follow up session and access to any group meditations. You can also come and resit the group courses down the track if you want to redo the course.
Plus you can also attend any group meditation sessions with any Vedic Meditation teacher around the world.

There have been millions of people from around the globe and from all walks of life who have been taught this technique and all of them benefit in some way from the practice. If you feel it is not working for you, I can continue to work with you until you get into a rhythm with the practice.
-
It is not uncommon to see changes immediately. But everyone is different and for some it may take up to a few months to start seeing some bigger shifts.
The great thing about this technique is that the benefits continue to come. So the longer you practice the more and deeper the benefits become!
-
You’d be surprised, once you start this practice you will actually find yourself a lot more focused and productive. Some of the busiest people on the planet from A listers, high performance athletes, corporate executives, entrepreneurs to busy mums and dads find (and love it) the 2* 20 minute a day sessions due to all the benefits they receive.
-
Meditation will help you in being the person you wish to be! So if you want change, then yes it will help you make those changes. But if you are stressed or anxious, that is also impacting your nervous system, which in turn will affect your personality profoundly. This is where meditation can really help with calming the nervous system.
